The studio
A ground-floor loft in the City Palms building, on Quadrille between Iris and Hibiscus: concrete floors, twenty-foot ceilings, a steel staircase and a wall of windows onto downtown.
Named after a pepper with a serious reputation.
The scotch bonnet, nicknamed the “Scotty Bon”, is a squat, wrinkled little pepper that looks harmless and absolutely is not. It seemed like the right name for a room full of people who don’t take themselves too seriously and take hair extremely seriously.
The space doubles as an advanced training center for professional hairdressers. When class is in session, it becomes Scotch Bonnet Advanced, and the same floor you get your hair cut on is where stylists from around the country come to get better.

Thirty-five seconds of an ordinary Tuesday: fresh from the bowls, product worked through, a round brush and an Arrojo dryer doing their slow magic, and the little photo moment against the concrete before you head back into the world.
